Premium Anamorphic by ARRI/Zeiss. This Arri 50mm T1.9 lens is part of the Master Anamorphic line of lenses, a set of primes designed and built through a partnership between ARRI and Zeiss to fulfill the most demanding anamorphic lens needs of filmmakers. You’ve found la crème de la crème.
The Anamorphic Look. This lens is an anamorphic design that in the most basic of explanations squeezes your captured image into a smaller sensor (or previously film) area. This lens does it very well. Oval bokeh and lens flares are subtle but beautifully rendered here with the default master anamorphic flare set.
PL LDS Mount for Accurate Lens Data. Master Anamorphic lenses feature ARRI’s PL mount paired with their Lens Data System (LDS) to transmit accurate lens metadata to compatible cameras. This is very useful for effects work and maintaining a consistent image throughout the editing process.
Glass That’s Worth the Price. The real achievement here is the accurate reproduction of contrast and color in a relatively small anamorphic lens that doesn’t breathe and has no distortion. The more clinical take on this type of lens is well suited for critical shots that require knowing exactly how the glass will perform in a variety of shooting conditions.
Compatibility. This lens’s compatibility is tricky. Vignetting can occur on large Super35 sensors like the RED WEAPON HELIUM 8K S35 Brain, but the vignetted footage may work for you dependent upon the final aspect ratio of your project.
If you’re using a full frame or VistaVision camera, yes. This lens is designed only for Super35 sensors and will vignette on larger sensors.
If you’re using an ARRI Super35 sensor camera, this lens will not vignette.
