The DJI Mavic 2 Zoom is a compact yet powerful quadrotor drone with an integrated, 2x optical zoom, gimbal-stabilized 4K camera, and it’s a follow-up to the popular Mavic Pro. Key features include:
12MP 4K camera with 24-48mm f/2.8/3.8 zoom lens
45 mph max speed in sport mode
31-minute flight time & up to 5 miles line-of sight control
Standard DJI Mavic remote included
Aerial Zoom. The Mavic 2 Zoom features a 1 /2.3” 12MP sensor with 24mm-48mm zooming capabilities for dynamic framing options. The 4x lossless zoom with included 2x optical zoom makes your shot more accessible while maintaining safe distances and the improved hybrid autofocus systems boasts 40% faster focusing, even when zooming in and out.
High Resolution, Stabilized Shooting. This drone is a lightweight quadcopter that can shoot video in UHD 4K (3840 × 2160) at up to 30 frames per second. While shooting in 1080p, the drone has the capability of extending that up to 120 frames per second. A photo mode offers the choice of 5472 × 3648 pixel DNG raw or jpeg images, and the sharpness of the camera’s photo and video capture is maximized by DJI’s super-smooth, fully integrated 3-axis gimbal. If you’re a first generation Mavic Pro user, be warned, DJI did remove the DCI 4K resolution option here but we think the added zoom functionality might be worth it.
Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing. The Mavic 2 Zoom has a new sensor array to provide obstacle sensing and avoidance on all sides. With that, DJI designed the new APAS feature to take advantage of that by automatically sensing and avoiding obstacles in the drone’s flight path with minimal input needed from the user.
45 Mph Top Speed & 31 Minute Flight Time. DJI reports that in lab tests with ideal conditions (Read: not the places you’ll likely be using it) the drone has a 31 minute flight time. A more realistic average is probably around 20-25 minutes. The Mavic 2 Zoom can reach speeds of up to 45 mph, a 5 mph improvement over the original Mavic Pro.
Drone Control From 5 Miles Line-Of-Sight. This rental includes the Mavic’s stock twin stick controller which works in tandem with the DJI Go app to allow control at distances of around 5 miles line-of-sight. Video can be monitored at 1080p, and the “OcuSync 2.0” system auto-detects the best frequency to make it happen. Once again, DJI reports this distance as ideal line-of-sight conditions. Your literal mileage may vary. Want the Mavic 2 Zoom with an upgraded remote? We also rent the Mavic 2 Zoom with Smart Controller.
Subject Tracking Modes. The gimbal offers multiple options for locking onto and easily tracking subjects like people, vehicles, and landmarks. Trajectory prediction and high-speed tracking features are both beefed up from its predecessor. Landing is simplified to a button press, returning the drone to the location where it took off from, and lowering itself delicately onto the ground.
Mavic Support And Resources. Click HERE to be swept away to DJI’s support site for the Mavic 2 Zoom drone. We’ve linked important videos and manuals at the bottom of this page, but there is a lot more to learn! Go ahead and familiarize yourself with the videos and resources on the support page so you’ll have more time to actually fly when your rental arrives.
What hardware do I need to update the firmware on the Mavic 2 Zoom?
Firmware can be updated through the DJI Go 4 app wirelessly as long as the mobile device is connected to the internet.
We provide a 32GB MicroSD card to get you started, but additional memory can be found here.
Turn on the Mavic in Wi-Fi mode. Then, press and hold the link button for 5 seconds.
Smartphones between .25 inches and .33 inches thick and up to 6.2 inches long will fit in the device. Phone cases are not accommodated.
The SSID and password can be found on the arms of the drone and inside the battery compartment.
We’ll update firmware as the equipment moves through our building. However, as drone firmware is updated on an almost daily basis, the user must ensure the firmware is current before flight. Without up-to-date firmware, drone functionality could be limited. Access to the internet is required to update drone firmware.
