What’s Changed? The Canon EOS C80 Cinema Camera improves on the prior C70 with increased sensor resolution, expanded internal recording modes, expanded ports for external recording, more audio recording options, IP streaming support, built-in Wi-Fi, a multi-interface shoe, and improved Dual-Pixel CMOS AF technology. With this camera, you can focus on objects across the entire image sensor instead of the narrower area coverage of the C70. You also have access to the latest subject-tracking modes, including animal-tracking AF. The BSI Stacked CMOS sensor is greatly improved at 19.05 effective megapixels (vs the prior’s 8.85MP). While the C80 still doesn’t offer in-body image stabilization, it is equipped with Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS).

Expanded Recording Options. Record up to 6K30p in Cinema RAW Light, as well as 4K120p and 2K180p. This camera also supports 6K60p RAW out over full-size HDMI. The dual SD card slots allow for dual recording, simultaneous recording of proxy files, simultaneous recording of different formats, or relay recording. The C80 inherited the sensor, DIGIC DV 7 processor, and the triple base ISO specs from the beefier C400 without sacrificing form factor so that the C80 can still be used with gimbals. With 16 stops of dynamic range, 12-bit RAW footage, and ports you’d normally only see on high-end cameras, the C80 fills the gap between large, pro-level cinema systems and portable prosumer mirrorless cameras.

Comprehensive Connectivity. With SRT protocol support, the C80 simplifies live streaming, ensuring stable, high-quality footage while using minimal network bandwidth. The built-in Ethernet port and Wi-Fi unlock maximum operability for both streaming and for Canon’s IP-based remote control XC protocol. When paired with a Canon RC-IP1000 or RC-IP100, you can remotely control the C80 as part of a large multi-camera setup. Alternatively, Canon’s Multi-Camera Control app lets you to start/stop recording and see framing and settings from afar.

Large Lens Selection. The C80 shoots full frame as well as Super 35 (4K Super 35 and UHD Super 35) and is compatible with Canon’s Virtual Production System, so you can use any RF mount lens, including VR lenses like the Canon RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Fisheye 3D VR. The C80 is also equipped with the Cooke /i Technology protocol from Cooke Optics, which opens up metadata compatibility with a variety of /i Technology partners. This protocol will automatically record key lens data for every frame shot. Lenses equipped with i/ Technology include the Canon Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95-3.9, the Angenieux EZ-2 15-40mm T2.0 S35, and the Cooke 50mm T2.4 SP3 Full-Frame Prime.
