Triple-Threat Hybrid. The EOS C50 is based around Canon’s back-illuminated full-frame sensor that captures 7K 3:2 open gate internally and boasts fast recording speeds in 4K up to 120 frames per second. To benefit social media creators, the C50 will simultaneously record standard 4K footage and vertical or square-cropped 2K footage. What’s more, this camera becomes a photo-dedicated mirrorless with the flip of a switch, capturing 32MP images up to 40 frames per second. To accommodate these different use cases, there are three ISO speeds—800, 6,400, and 64,000—which fully takes advantage of the camera’s entire 15+ stop dynamic range.

Easy Anamorphic with Real-Time De-Squeeze. The 7K open gate sensor, which uses the full dimensions of the sensor, provides ample resolution for anamorphic de-squeezing with minimal cropping. The EOS C50 provides 2x/1.8x/1.5x/1.3x de-squeeze magnification options. See the results directly on the LCD and accurately visualize your final scene.

Recording Formats. Different shoots call for different recording formats, and the EOS C50 has the right one for your project. It supports 7K at up to 60 FPS in RAW HQ, RAW ST, and Cinema RAW Light 12-bit. It can also capture 10-bit 4:2:2 4K footage oversampled from the 7K sensor at up to 120 FPS without cropping for outstanding detail. Additionally, the C50’s Slow & Fast Motion Recording reaches 180 FPS in 2K with only a small crop. All recording options are sent to the camera’s CFexpress Type B slot with sub-recording/proxy options available with the SD card slot.

Connectivity. The C50 equips you with a full-size HDMI port with a clean feed out up to 4K60p. There is also a 3.5mm headphone port, a 3.5mm mic port, a 2.5mm remote port, timecode in/out (see our Tentacle Sync Tentacle to DIN 1.0/2.3 Cable to adapt this port to 3.5mm devices), and a multi-purpose USB-C port. There are no SDI ports.

Expansive Audio Options. Topped with an intelligent/multi-interface hot shoe, the Canon EOS C50 supports digital, wireless audio devices. The hot shoe also houses the included top handle, which is outfitted with dual full-size XLRs with 48V phantom power, a start/stop button, and a zoom rocker. To protect the hot shoe from the rigors of handle use, it is secured with additional captive screws.

Improved Dual-Pixel Autofocus System. No dedicated focus puller? The C50’s Dual-Pixel AF II system, which gains performance benefits from the 7K CMOS sensor, has you covered. Its intelligent tracking feature quickly and accurately follows humans’ and animals’ eyes, faces, heads, and bodies.

Form Factor and Other Features. The C50 was designed with portability in mind. Its compact, practically palm-sized build makes it great for shooting in tight spaces and for use with gimbals or drones. When shooting vertically, the display switches to a UI that supports vertical shooting, including touch control for start/stop. When in photo mode, the camera uses the same menu system found in the EOS R series (please note that this camera has only an LCD and no EVF). Also familiar is the use of LP-E6P batteries, which makes on-set sharing of batteries between different Canon cameras super convenient. Lastly, the C50 has built-in Wi-Fi and supports IP streaming.
