The Tamron 25-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 for Sony E is a versatile, wide-angle zoom for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, and an update to the Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD. Key features include:
Versatile, fast-aperture all-in-one zoom
Revised optical formula for greater sharpness
Improved autofocus performance
1:1.9 maximum magnification for half-macro shooting
What’s Changed? The Tamron 25-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 for Sony E offers several significant improvements to its previous-gen predecessor, the Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD. It maintains the 28-200’s compact build while expanding its wide end to 25mm. Its 1:1.9 maximum magnification at the 25mm end enables half-macro photography. Its revised optical formula improves image quality, and the autofocus system is even more precise.
Fast-Aperture Wide-to-Telephoto Zoom. The Tamron 25-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2’s wide-to-telephoto zoom range makes it great for portrait, landscape, nature, and sports photography, among many other applications. Its bright, f/2.8 maximum aperture gives you excellent depth-of-field control; soft, beautiful bokeh; and consistent brightness throughout the zoom range.
Revised Optical Design. The redesigned fourteen-group/eighteen-element optical formula includes an extra-low dispersion element, three low-dispersion elements, two glass-molded aspherical elements, and two hybrid aspherical elements to give you sharp, high-contrast images across the image plane. Each lens element has a BBAR-G2 coating that combats ghosting, internal reflections, and flare while helping maintain sharpness and color fidelity even in strong light.
VXD Linear-Motor Autofocus System. The 25-200mm’s VXD linear-motor autofocus system tracks even the most fast-moving subjects quickly, accurately, quietly, and smoothly, making it ideal for still and video use. This lens is compatible with Sony’s Direct Manual Focus function and Eye AF on cameras with those features, and there’s also full-time manual-focus override for even greater precision. An 6.5-inch minimum focusing distance at the wide end lets you get reasonably close to your subject.
Durable Construction. You can use this lens in inclement conditions thanks to its moisture-resistant build. The front element’s fluorine coating protects against smearing and debris.
Di III refers to Tamron’s third generation of Digitally Integrated Design lenses that have been engineered specifically for mirrorless, interchangeable-lens cameras with no internal mirror box or pentaprism.
VXD refers to the Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive autofocus system. “VXD” is catchier and less unwieldy than “VCETD,” to be fair.
G2 indicates that this is the second-generation version of this lens.
Yes, this lens provides full-frame sensor coverage.
