Full-Frame E-mount. As a part of the FE line of lenses, the FE 90mm f/2.8 GM is designed to cover the Sony a7-series cameras’ full-frame sensors. Since it’s an E-mount lens, it’s also fully compatible with APS-C NEX cameras.

True Macro. When used on a full-frame camera, this lens provides a true 1:1 macro ratio with a 90mm focal length. With an APS-C sensor camera, you’ll still get 1:1 macro reproduction, but the focal length is equivalent to 135mm. The fast f/2.8 aperture enables extremely shallow depth-of-field control at macro focus distances.

Direct-Drive Super Sonic Wave Motor Autofocus System. This internal-focusing system uses piezoelectric elements oscillating at ultrasonic frequencies to provide fast, highly accurate, and nearly silent autofocus performance that’s great for still and video use. The internal-focusing system is crucial to macro work because the front element doesn’t extend or rotate. On the lens barrel itself, there’s a focus hold button and a focus limit switch for improved functionality when shooting both macro and standard images. The focus ring features a clutch design, enabling quick changes from auto to manual focus.

Optical Image Stabilization. The in-lens image stabilization allows you to shoot at slower shutter speeds without having to worry about camera shake.

Advanced Optics. The FE 90mm f/2.8 GM uses one aspherical element and two extra-low dispersion elements to minimize spherical and chromatic aberrations, and to produce clear, high-contrast images. The rounded nine-blade aperture diaphragm produces smooth out-of-focus highlights when you desire a shallow depth of field. Additionally, Nano AR coatings keep flare and ghosting at bay.

High Build Quality. Like the Sony a7-series cameras, the FE 90mm offers dust- and moisture-resistant sealing for use in less-than-ideal conditions. The all-metal barrel and smooth, responsive manual-focus ring give the lens a solid feel.
