Full-Frame E-mount. As a part of the FE line of lenses, the FE 16-35mm f/4 is designed to cover the full-frame sensors on Sony E-mount cameras. Since it’s an E-mount lens, it’s also fully compatible with APS-C NEX cameras.

Wide-Angle Zoom. When used on a full-frame camera, this lens covers the ultra-wide to moderately wide focal range, making it perfect for sweeping landscapes/cityscapes and large group shots. With an APS-C sensor camera, you’ll have a focal length equivalent to 24-53mm. The constant f/4 aperture isn’t quite fast enough for low-light shooting, but it’s better than a variable-aperture zoom. Do note the zoom method is barrel-extending.

Internal Focusing. Offers faster focusing speed due to smaller moving parts. The non-rotating front element enables this lens to use polarizing filters, and the barrel doesn’t extend during focusing. The linear-focusing motor enables silent autofocus performance for both still and video shooting.

Optical Image Stabilization. The in-lens stabilizer provides up to four stops of correction, allowing you to shoot at lower shutter speeds without having to worry about camera shake.

Advanced Optics. The FE 16-35mm features five aspherical elements (one of which is large diameter) and three extra-low dispersion elements for minimizing chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range while retaining a small form factor. Additionally, the Carl Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating eliminates lens flare and ghosting while providing the famous high micro-contrast Zeiss look. Its seven-blade aperture diaphragm gives images smooth out-of-focus areas when you desire a shallow depth of field.

High Build Quality. Like the Sony a7-series cameras, the FE 16-35mm offers dust- and moisture-resistant sealing for use in less-than-ideal conditions. The all-metal barrel and smooth, responsive zoom and manual-focus rings give this lens a solid feel.
