The Panasonic Lumix DC-S1 is a well-rounded and durable full-frame mirrorless camera that offers advanced feature sets for stills and video. Key features include:

  • 24.2MP full-frame MOS sensor and Venus Engine

  • UHD 4K HDR capture

  • Five-axis sensor-shift image stabilization

  • Accepts L-mount lenses

24.2MP Full-Frame MOS Sensor and Venus Engine. The Panasonic DC-S1’s 24.2MP MOS sensor is supported by an updated Venus Engine for impressive image quality, a fast 9 fps shooting rate, great low-light performance, and an expanded 100-204,800 ISO range. The sensor and processor combine to enhance color reproduction and suppress noise levels throughout the camera’s sensitivity range.

L-Mount Alliance. This wide-diameter lens mount is a joint collaboration between Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma that’s focused on a line of premium cameras & lenses in a mirrorless format. At 51.6mm mount diameter and just 20mm flange distance, the L-mount is well-suited for fast-aperture full-frame optics with compact dimensions.

UHD 4K HDR. The Lumix S1 offers you UHD 4K30p video recording with full-pixel readout (up to 10-bit 4:2:0) or UHD4K60p from an APS-C sensor crop at 8-bit 4:2:0. When shooting in HLG mode, you can capture UHD 4K30p in 10-bit 4:2:0 high dynamic range. It features clean HDMI output to external recorder at up to UHD 4K60p as 8-bit 4:2:2. There’s a built-in stereo mic for quick audio capture, and there are also 3.5mm mic and headphone jacks for advanced audio recording and monitoring needs. Please note that for 4K capture, you must use an SD memory card that’s UHS-I Class 3 or faster, or an XQD-format or Type B CFexpress memory card.

6K and 4K Photo. The Panasonic S1 gives you three still-shooting modes for recording continuous 3:2 or 4:3 8MP stills at a 60 or 30 fps shooting rate or 18MP stills at a 30 fps shooting rate. Burst mode lets you continuously record, Pre-Burst mode records images one second before and one second after you press the shutter button so you get 60 frames to choose from, while Burst (S/S) mode lets you select the frame you want from recorded video footage. This camera can also record stills in 65:24 and 2:1 panoramic formats.

Light-Speed Autofocus. This contrast-based autofocus system uses Panasonic’s “Depth from Defocus” technology to provide extremely fast speeds. “Advanced AI technology” assists in subject tracking of fast-moving subjects, while the same AI system is used when shooting portraits for face / eye detection. And if you’re shooting in low light, the DFDautofocus system works down to -6 EV.

Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization. This system uses five-axis sensor-shift stabilization for up to 5.5-stops of correction. Mate the camera with a Panasonic lens that features Dual IS 2 (a lens-based two-axis stabilization) to compensate for roughly 6-stops of camera shake, giving your hand-held shots utmost sharpness. Another unique feature of the S1 enabled by the in-camera sensor-shift stabilizer is its High Resolution mode which captures and compiles 8 separate exposures into a single 96MP RAW or JPEG file at 12000 × 8000 pixel resolution (subject must be static and camera locked down on a tripod).

Built-In Electronic Viewfinder. The 5.76m-dot OLEDintegrated electronic viewfinder offers 100% coverage and encompasses the entire Adobe RGB color space, allowing extremely faithful color reproduction. It offers 0.78x configurable viewing magnification and a smooth 60 fps or 120 fps changeable refresh rate, 0.005-second lag, and 10,000:1 contrast ratio.

Rear and Top LCDs. You can use the 2.1m-dot 3.2-inch rear touchscreen LCD for image composition, review, playback, and menu navigation. Its triaxial tilting design lets you work from low and high angles, even when you’re shooting in vertical orientation. Live View Boost mode was designed for composing images in low light, while Night Mode also helps you work in the dark by lowering the backlight intensity. A separate status LCD on top of the camera lets you quickly review shooting settings, even when the camera’s powered off.

Manual Controls. There are physical dials/rings for quick manual adjustment of shutter speed, aperture, focus, and exposure compensation. An eight-way joystick provides simple, fast focus point selection and menu navigation, and there are multiple programmable buttons that can be customized to suit your needs.

Other Notable Features. The built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth provide wireless control and viewing options via the free Lumix Sync App. Images are recorded to SDHC/XC memory cards (remember, UHS-I Class 3 or faster for 4K video), or XQD or CFexpress Type B, and the rechargeable DMW-BLJ31 battery is rated for approximately 380-400 shots per charge when using the rear monitor, 360-380 shots per charge when using the EVF, and 1100-1150 shots per charge when Power Save LVF mode is on.

Q & A

Does this rental include the unlocked 10-bit and full V-Log upgrade?

  • Due to stock issues with all retailers, we only have a limited number of V-Log upgraded cameras. We are offering them on a first come, first served basis for the time being. If you need the upgrade, please contact us first.

Do I need to use a specific type of memory card for 4K capture?

Does this camera accept Micro 4/3 mount lenses?

  • No! While Panasonic has a wide variety of Micro 4/3 cameras and lenses, the full-frame S1 / S1R cameras use a completely different lens mount.
