The Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II is a powerful telephoto zoom lens that brings massive updates to the optical and physical performance the previous 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S. Key features include:

  • For full-frame Nikon Z

  • Silky Smooth VCM multi-focus AF system

  • Control ring with click/de-click switch

  • 6-stop VR image stabilization

What’s Changed? This second-generation Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II is best defined as refined. Building off the capabilities of its predecessor, this hybrid workhorse telephoto lens pushes image quality to the next level with thinner lens elements, and a reduction from 21 elements to 18 elements total. Replacing the standard stepping autofocus motor, the Silky Swift Voice Coil Motor (VCM) produces functionally silent autofocus with 17.5x more accuracy. Its maximum magnification increases from 2.0x to 2.5x at 200mm and 3x at 70mm, and the minimum focusing distance decreases from 19.7-inches at 70mm to just 15-inches. Overall, the versatile design of the VR S II is about 5-inches shorter and a full 26% lighter than the previous version, making it a great addition to your Nikon Z adventure.

Nikon Z System. The Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II was designed specifically for cameras in Nikon’s full-frame Z-mount system. Z-mount lenses only work with Z-mount cameras, such as the Z7 and Z6, and Z-mount cameras are only natively compatible with Z-mount lenses.

Fast-Aperture Telephoto Zoom. This lens provides a portrait to short-tele focal range, making it perfect for sports, event, and portrait photographers. The relatively fast f/2.8 aperture offers some shallow depth of field, while allowing you to keep shooting even when the lights get dim. While this lens was designed for FX-format cameras, you can also use it with DX-format cameras on which it’ll provide a 105-300mm equivalent focal-length range.

Vibration Reduction. The improved built-in vibration reduction now provides up to six stops of correction for minimizing camera shake at slower shutter speeds and producing sharper results when shooting hand-held.

Multi-Focus Autofocus System. This lens’s multi-focus Silky Smooth VCM autofocus system gives you fast, accurate performance throughout the zoom range. This system provides smooth, silent performance that’s particularly suited to video applications, and offers 3.5x faster focusing with 40% more accuracy. You also get full-time manual focusing for precision adjustments, while the internal-focusing design means that the lens maintains its length during focusing.

Advanced Optics. This second-gen 70-200mm’s 16-group/18-element optical system includes 1 extra-low dispersion (ED) element, 1 Super ED element, 2 aspherical elements, 1 aspherical ED element, 1 fluorite element, and 1 short-wavelength refractive (SR) element. ARNEO and Meso Amorphous coatings help keep ghosting, reflections, and flares at bay; multiple elements include a Super Integrated Coating to ensure consistent color accuracy; and a fluorine finish on the front and rear elements helps prevent smudging.
