The Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II is a versatile pro-grade zoom for Nikon Z-mount cameras, and a serious update to the previous-gen Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S. Key features include:

  • Only for Nikon Z-mount cameras

  • Internal zoom design, faster autofocus performance

  • Revised optical design for high-quality images

  • Improved weather resistance, 16% lighter than the Mark I

Nikon Z System. The Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II was designed specifically for cameras in Nikon’s full-frame Z-mount system. Z-mount lenses only work with Z-mount cameras, and Z-mount cameras are only compatible with Z-mount lenses.

What’s Changed? The Mark II includes several substantial improvements to its predecessor, most significant of which is its internal-zoom design, which itself facilitates faster autofocus performance, more robust weather resistance, and a lighter overall weight. In addition, you get a 9.4-inch minimum focusing distance compared to 15 inches on the Mark I, a 0.32x maximum reproduction ratio compared to Mark I’s 0.22x, a de-clickable control ring, and a second configurable L-Fn button on the barrel.

Normal-Range Zoom. With full-frame sensor coverage, this lens’s 24-70mm focal length is the go-to for portrait, wedding, and event photography. It covers the wide to short tele focal lengths to give you the most flexibility while still maximizing image quality and speed. This lens, the Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S, and the Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S all have internal-zoom designs.

Revised Optical Design. The Nikon Z 24-70mm II’s ten-group/fourteen-element S-line optical formula incorporates a mix of extra-low dispersion and aspherical elements to promote sharpness and color rendering while limiting chromatic aberrations. Nikon has applied Meso Amorphous, ARNEO, and fluorine coatings to the elements to combat ghosting, reflections, and lens flare, even when you’re working in bright or backlit conditions.

Constant Aperture. The constant f/2.8 maximum aperture gives you consistent performance throughout the zoom range. It’s great for working in low light, and for using selective-focus techniques. The eleven rounded aperture blades contribute to smooth bokeh.

Multi-Focus Autofocus System. This autofocus system uses a Silky Swift Voice-Coil Motor for smooth performance that’s five times faster and substantially quieter than that of the already fast and nearly silent predecessor. You also get full-time manual focusing for precision adjustments, and an internal-focusing design that means the lens maintains its length during focusing.

Advanced Build. This lens’s durable, moisture-resistant construction means you can use it in adverse conditions without worry. A programmable, de-clickable control ring lets you adjust manual focus, aperture, or exposure compensation. Two assignable L-Fn buttons—one on top of the lens barrel and the other on its left-hand side—work in conjunction with cameras’ Fn buttons to let you quickly and seamlessly change exposure settings, subject tracking, image playback and other functions.
