The Leica Q3 43 is identical to the Leica Q3 except for one key difference: this Q3 is equipped with a longer 43mm f/2 lens – a first in the Q series. Key features include:
60MP full-frame sensor with MAESTRO IV image processor
Fixed Summilux 43mm f/2 lens
Hybrid autofocus system
8K30, 4K60, ProRes 1080p recording
What’s Changed? The Leica Q3 43 has the same specifications as the popular Leica Q3. The only difference with this model is the lens: the Leica Q3 43 is equipped with an APO-Summicron 43mm f/2 ASPH. lens. This unique 43mm focal length better approximates the field of view of the human eye for a more natural perspective than the prior model’s 28mm lens. It is well-suited for portraits and street photography and offers a macro position to shoot as close as 10.4" from your subject. One other small update for this model is the ability to use RODE microphones via the USB-C port.
Superb Performance. With the same high-resolution 60MP sensor as the premium Leica M11, the Leica Q3 43 offers Triple Resolution Technology. This unique pixel binning process lets photographers select 60MP, 36MP, or 18MP output, with each resolution using the full sensor area and providing vibrant 14-bit color. With such a high resolution, you can simulate different focal lengths, from the native 43mm all the way to 150mm, while retaining image quality.
Advanced Imaging Capabilities. DCI 8K recording is supported at up to 30p, as well as 4K60p, and ProRes 422 HQ at 1080p60. The Maestro IV processor helps the Q3 43 achieve an impressive 50-100,000 ISO and 14 stops of dynamic range, as well as continuous shooting up to 15 fps. Contrast-detection, phase-detection, and depth-from-defocus autofocus combine to create a powerful hybrid autofocusing system that captures moving subjects with ease. The intelligent subject recognition system is able to track eyes, faces, bodies, and animals.
Design and Connectivity. Slightly different from the original Q3 is the updated grey leatherette on the body of the Q3 43, which contrasts nicely with the black top and bottom plates. Otherwise, the two cameras remain the same in terms of weather resistance, thumb support, and overall form factor – though the Q3 43 is slightly deeper and heavier than the Q3. Micro-HDMI and USB-C ports allow you to connect external recorders, gimbals, a power bank, and more for complex setups. The high-resolution EVF features a 120 fps refresh rate and the 3" touchscreen has a tilting design. This is a stylish compact camera that offers a bit of luxury to everyday shooting without sacrificing image quality or speed.
According to the manufacturer website, all of the accessories (such as the thumb support and wireless charging grip) are compatible with both cameras. However, the Q3 43 is slightly longer and slightly heavier than the Q3 on account of the longer lens but the body dimensions are the same.
