What’s New? We have quite a lot new here if you’re coming from the XF305. The larger 1" CMOS sensor of the Canon XF705 can record up to 4K/60fps 4:2:2 10-bit H.265 files to dual SD media slots. The integrated lens loses a bit of range with a 15x optical zoom at 25.5-382.5mm of reach, but the higher resolution sensor double that to 30x when in 1080p using a smooth digital zoom with no perceivable loss of detail. The camera records HDR straight to the dual SD card slots, and a new stabilization system gives 5-axes of smoothing to keep even 4K footage nice and crisp. There’s even more newness below.

1-inch, 13.4 MP, UHD 4K, CMOS Sensor. The XF705 uses a 4268 × 3148 resolution, 13.4 MP, 1-inch CMOS sensor, and you can choose among 59.94, 29.97, and 23.98 fps settings to achieve just the look you want. The camera supports UHD 4K at up to a 160 Mbps bit rate with 4:2:2 10-bit color sampling. Shooting in 1080p extends frame rate options up to 120 fps and bit rate up to 180 Mbps.

SD Card Recording. The camera records to SDXC memory cards and has two card slots that allow for simultaneous and relay recording. This means you can continuously record indefinitely by exchanging cards as they fill.

Canon 15x Zoom Lens. The XF705’s L-series lens has a 35mm-equivalent zoom range of 25.5-382.5mm, dual pixel auto focus system, and 5-axis optical image stabilization. A waveform monitor and vectorscope are built right into the camera. The freely rotating 4-inch touchscreen monitor and 0.46-inch OLED electronic viewfinder show a 100% field of view. The aperture has 9 blades for smooth out of focus highlights.

Professional Inputs & Outputs. The XF305 features industry-standard 12G-SDI BNC output, genlock input, SMPTE timecode BNC input/output terminals, and Ethernet making it perfectly suited for multi-camera, live event productions. Audio input utilizes two phantom powered XLR or one stereo mini-jack for four channels of recorded audio.

Additional Features. A wi-fi adapter provides wireless connectivity for transferring files via FTP and IP streaming in H.265 or H.264. This camera has three stops of ND filtration on a motorized filter wheel and is the first fixed-lens camera from Canon to feature the Canon Log 3 color gamut for greater grading flexibility in post.
