The TASCAM Sonicview 16XP 16-Channel Digital Mixer and Recorder is a pro-grade multitrack digital recording and mixing console that’s great for touring bands, venues, special events, corporate meetings, and myriad other applications. Key features include:

  • FPGA mixing engine with 96 kHz / 32-bit AD / DA

  • Sixteen HDIA mic preamps – one on each mic input

  • Two independently configurable seven-inch touchscreens

  • Designed for ease of use, even in dark studios and venues

Exceptional Audio Quality. The TASCAM Sonicview 16XP 16-Channel Digital Mixer and Recorder is a next-gen multitrack recorder and mixer that’s powered by a 96 kHz, 54-bit floating point FPGA mixing engine that uses 96 kHz / 32-bit analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters for exceptional audio quality with minimal latency.

Intuitive Mixing Controls. The 16XP has seventeen motorized faders—two banks of eight channel faders and a single stereo fader for the main bus. There’s a color touch panel above each bank of faders that lets you view mixer channels in their entirety or take granular control of each parameter.

Another VIEW. TASCAM’s Visual Interactive Ergonomic Workflow (VIEW) system makes configuring both of the 16XP’s touchscreens a snap. It offers three different ways to view your settings and lets you configure each touchscreen independently, so you can monitor and control any combination of settings you want on the touchscreen you want. Channel Strip View lets you see the status of any eight adjacent channels at a glance, and is comparable to vertical channel strips on an analog mixer. Module View lets you monitor and control any two sets of parameters for a single channel. Individual View lets you set up a custom array of functions for any channel or group of channels simultaneously on any of the recorder’s screens.

Input Channels, Preamps, and Effects. The Sonicview includes eight channels with XLR mic/line inputs and eight channels with XLR mic inputs and balanced TRS line inputs. Each of the mic inputs feeds one of TASCAM’s top-of-the-line High-Definition Instrumentation Architecture (HDIA) preamps, which pick up a performance’s subtlest nuances. There are also two channels with TRS insert points, two stereo pairs of RCA aux inputs, and an XLR input for a talkback mic. There are eleven effects and processing functions—including delay, phasing, compression, four-band parametric EQ, and high-pass filter—that you can independently assign to each input in any combination.

Internal Channels and Processing. Forty internal mono channels and two internal stereo channels let you fly in backing tracks, use the Dante network to manage sources from all over the venue, and mix dozens of DAW tracks, while eight DCAs let you easily control groups of channels. You can use the programmable layer keys to assign custom channel and output-bus combinations to the motorized faders.

Output Buses and Processing. The 16XP was designed for maximum signal-routing flexibility. On top of the main L/R stereo bus, you get 22 output flex buses, each of which you can configure as a subgroup, aux, or matrix. Each output bus has a 31-band graphic EQ, real-time analyzer functions, 4-band parametric EQ, compression, delay, solo, pan, and mute. You can also assign four additional effects to any individual mixer channel.

Featuring Dante for Expansive Networking. Dante audio-over-IP networks integrate thousands of systems in concert productions, recording studios, radio stations, corporate boardrooms, and more. The 16XP’s integrated 64-in/64-out Dante interface supports the AES67 mode, Dante Domain Manager, and SMPTE 2110 mode, so you can use it as the audio center of a Dante system.

USB Audio Interface and Stereo Recording. An on-board 32-in/32-out USB audio interface makes the Sonicview a top-shelf front end for recording studios, broadcast applications, and live venues. You can use your preferred DAW to record your choice of channel direct outs, flex buses, and the main stereo bus at up to 96 kHz with the same 32-bit quality you’ll find elsewhere in the Sonicview. You can also simultaneously capture the main mix directly to the integrated stereo SD recorder.

32-Track SD Recording. In addition to its integrated audio interface, the Sonicview 16XP’s built-in multitrack recording card lets you capture 32 channels of audio directly to an SDXC card. It supports simultaneous 32-channel punch-in, punch-out, pre-record, auto-record, and markers, and it automatically saves and closes the file once per minute during recording to prevent data loss.

Remote Control to Change the Station. It’s easy to control the Sonicview from most anywhere in the studio or venue by connecting a wireless router to the ethernet port and using the TASCAM Sonicview Control app. You can edit offline settings in advance and then make adjustments during the performance from the app or on the Sonicview itself.

Intuitive Controls and Navigation. The 16XP controls like an analog recorder and mixer with the added convenience of customizable digital functions. There are eighteen user-defined function keys that you can assign as you see fit, and the Sonicview’s mixing surface is designed with ease of use in mind. The illuminated mixing surface makes it easy to see what you’re doing, even in a dark venue. Each channel strip has its own channel-name LCD with a full-color LED. The User keys also feature full-color LEDs so that you can group each input source and function by color for easy identification. Finally, the Solo and Channel Select keys have distinctive shapes, while the Mute key is guarded by a cap, so you’ll always know what you’re controlling.

Music Non-Stop. The Sonicview 16XP’s operating system and mixing engine are entirely separated from the physical mixing surface, which greatly improves stability. Should the mixing surface stop working—which is extremely unlikely—the sound won’t be disrupted, and you’ll be able to restore functionality by restarting the control-surface OS.
