Full Frame E-mount. As a part of the FE line of lenses, the FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 is designed to cover the Sony a7-series cameras’ full-frame sensors. Since it’s an E-mount lens, it’s also fully compatible with APS-C NEX cameras.

Normal-Range Zoom. When used on a full-frame camera, this lens covers the wide to normal/short telephoto focal range, making it a great all-purpose lens. With an APS-C sensor camera, you’ll have a focal length equivalent to 43-105mm, meaning that you could use the FE 28-70mm as a portrait lens. The variable f/3.5-5.6 aperture isn’t quite fast enough for low-light shooting, but it’s better than a variable-aperture zoom. Do note the zoom method is barrel-extending.

Internal Focusing. The non-rotating front element enables this lens to use polarizing filters, and the barrel doesn’t extend during focusing. (Please note that this lens has a barrel-extending zoom system.) The linear-focusing motor enables fast, silent autofocus performance.

Optical Image Stabilization. The in-lens stabilizer allows you to shoot at lower shutter speeds without having to worry about camera shake.

Optics. The FE 28-70mm uses three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element to minimize distortion and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range. The seven-blade aperture diaphragm produces relatively smooth out-of-focus areas.
