• Yes! Unlike coaxial cables, fiber-optic cables are immune to EMI because the signal transmission occurs through light instead of current. They’re also immune to RF (radio frequency) and extreme changes in temperature and moisture.

• The glass fiber inside the cable is fragile. Even though the cable is designed to protect the fiber, it’s still easier to damage than copper wire. The most common damage is a broken fiber, which is difficult to detect, and you can crack the fiber by applying too much tension when pulling or de-spooling the cable.

• It’s good practice to leave the dust caps on until you’re ready to connect the cables. Fiber-optic connectors can easily be contaminated by dust, oils from human hands, film residue (condensed from vapors in the air), and powdery coatings left after water or other solvents evaporate. Clean fiber-optic components are a necessary requirement for quality connections between fiber-optic equipment.

• Keep the cables safely coiled. Avoid using zip ties when possible. If zip ties are the only solution, cinch them loosely so as to not compress the cable. Compressing the cable could cause a loss in signal.
