The PocketWizard Plus IVe Transceiver is an advanced radio-signal strobe trigger and update to the immensely popular Plus IV. Key features include:
112 selectable channels and quad-zone triggering
Up to 14.5 fps shooting
Automated switching between transmit and receive modes
2625-foot wireless range
Top Shoe. Like its predecessor, the PocketWizard Plus IVe Transceiver has a pass-thru hot shoe for mounting a flash directly without wires. While this is limited to manual triggering (i.e. no TTL) for remote flashes, it’s still great news for anyone who’s ever had to deal with rubber-banding PocketWizards and cables to a flash.
On-Camera TTL Pass-Thru. Need an on-camera flash as well? Not only are you covered, but the Plus IVe supports TTL pass-thru with most Canon, Nikon, and Panasonic cameras and flashes, as well as some Fuji and Olympus gear. Please note that Sony Multi-Interface cameras and flashes aren’t TTL supported, but can be manually triggered up to X-sync, either on camera or as a remote.
Long-Range Capability. This Plus IVe boasts an up to 2625-foot wireless range, which is over twice that of the Plus IV.
112 Channels, Minimal Interference. With a total of 112 channels—32 of which are Quad-Zone and 80 of which are Long-Range Quad Zone—the Plus IVe has plenty of options for shooting in crowded airwaves. The Plus IVe uses a radio signal, which means you don’t have to be in its line-of-sight for it to work. Basically, it’ll work if you’re within range—again, up to 2625 feet in perfect conditions.
Quad-Zone Triggering. You can independently activate and deactivate remote flashes in four controllable zones.
Auto-Sensing Transceiver. This transceiver automatically swaps between transmit and receive modes as needed. There’s also the option to manually choose transmit or receive for complicated setups.
Multiple Modes. The Plus IVe offers many of its predecessor’s modes. Auto-Relay enables remote cameras and flashes to be triggered in tandem, Repeater lets you reach even greater distances when using an extra Plus IVe, and High Speed Receive expands the normal 12 fps maximum frame rate to up to 14.5 fps.
Two-Stage Remote Camera Triggering. This transceiver’s two-stage TEST button works exactly like your camera’s shutter-release button. If you press it halfway, your remote camera wakes up to meter and focus. Press it the rest of the way to take your photo. Once you release the button, your remote camera will return to sleep mode, saving you a substantial amount of battery power.
Simple User Interface. You can easily manage Channels, Zones, and Modes from the back panel, which includes an easy-to-read, backlit, one-inch LCD screen with soft-touch buttons.
Sync Input. Sometimes you need to trigger more than just hot shoe flashes. The Plus IVe has a 1/8-inch mini input for connecting a sync cable. We include a 1/8-inch to 1/8-inch sync cable for triggering any of our studio strobes. That said, please make sure you have the cables you need to use your personal equipment.
Compatibility. The Plus IVe is compatible with PocketWizard E-Series radios that have the E-Release firmware.
Just so we’re clear: We don’t know how you’re going to hook up your PocketWizards, what other equipment you’re using them with, or what types of cables you may already have. We’ll only send the cables and PocketWizards you order. If you meant to order something (but didn’t), thought it came with the equipment (it doesn’t), or assumed we knew what you’d need (we don’t), you’ll be using very high ISO on your shoot and we won’t be able to refund you.
The PocketWizard Plus IVe is powered by two AA batteries, which aren’t included with this rental.
We offer the Rechargeable AA Battery 8-Pack Travel Kit, Panasonic Eneloop Pro AA Ni-MH 2550mAh 4-pack, and Nitecore New i4 Intellicharger as separate rental items.
In order to trigger anything, you’ll need at least two PocketWizard Plus IVe units. If you rent a single PocketWizard for your four-light setup, you won’t be using any lights on your shoot.
The PocketWizard Plus IVe’s pass-thru TTL does not support Sony Multi-Interface cameras and flashes. PocketWizard does not provide a full list of incompatible flashes. Instead, they say “most Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Panasonic, and Olympus speedlights and cameras” are compatible.
Do not use any flash that’s normally powered via camera (such as Olympus/Panasonic accessory flashes) with this transceiver. Again, if the flash doesn’t have a power source, do not mount it on the PocketWizard Plus IVe. This will damage the Plus IVe and the flash, and it’s a fire risk.
