Very Wide Telephoto Zoom. The Olympus 150-400mm f/4.5 TC1.25X ED IS PRO’s big selling point is its zoom. Its 300-800mm equivalent focal-length range and rounded nine-blade diaphragm make it great for sports, wildlife, and nature photography. The constant f/4.5 aperture isn’t useful for low-light shooting, though, so you’ll probably want to stick with outdoor-lighting conditions for best results.

Built-In 1.25x Teleconverter. This lens has an integrated teleconverter that lets you extend your reach to 187.5-500mm (375-1000mm equivalent) with the flip of a toggle switch. Because this teleconverter is built into the lens, it’s already optically matched to the lens and features the same excellent weather sealing.

Optical Image Stabilization. The 150-400mm’s built-in six-stop optical image stabilization system minimizes the appearance of camera shake, allowing you to shoot hand-held and in other unstable conditions without worrying about your photos’ sharpness. This lens supports Five-Axis Sync IS, which lets you use camera-based sensor-shift IS for even greater stabilization.

Movie & Still Compatible Autofocus System. The MSC autofocus system’s fast, smooth, precise, and nearly silent performance makes it ideal for still and video applications. There’s also full-time manual override, and focus-hold buttons on the lens barrel clutch give you intuitive control and easy access to settings. A focus-range limiter lets you constrict the focus system to 4.3-19.7’, 4.3’ to infinity, or 19.7’ to infinity ranges for faster focusing performance depending on the subject and distance.

Advanced Optical Design. This lens’s 18-group/28-element optical formula includes one extra-low dispersion aspherical element, four super extra-low dispersion elements, two extra-low dispersion elements, and one high-definition element. This combination produces the highest image quality Olympus could squeeze out, and helps to reduce aberrations, color fringing, and distortion. Olympus has applied a Z Coating Nano to each lens element to further combat ghosting and flare.

High-Quality Build. Pro-grade means pro build, and that’s what you’re getting here. The dust-, freeze-, and splash-proof barrel and heat-resistant finish ensure that the lens will still perform in inclement weather and harsh conditions. The front element’s fluorine coating combats smudges and fingerprints for easier cleaning. There’s a programmable L-Fn button to suit your needs, and a removable tripod ring to help stabilize the lens over long shooting periods.
