The DJI Mavic Air is a compact quadrotor drone with a redesigned 3-axis gimbal stabilized camera capable of recording 4K video and 12MP photos to its 8GB internal storage. Key features include:
3-axis stabilized 4K video & 12MP RAW photos
42 mph max speed
21 minute flight time
8GB internal storage
What’s New? The DJI Mavic Air is focused even more towards portability than DJI’s first compact drone, the Mavic Pro. Weight has been reduced by 10 ounces, and DJIshaved over an inch of the overall length while adding 8GB of internal storage. A redesigned gimbal still captures UHD4K up to 30p but drops support for DCI 4K. The maximum video bitrate has been raised to 100Mpbs from 60Mbps. The controller is a similar design but loses the LCD that displayed some flight stats.
UHD 4K video & 12MP RAW Photos. The 1/2.3" CMOS 12MP sensor is capable of recording 4K UHD video up to 30p and 2.7K video up to 60p. While shooting in 1080p, maximum frame rate extends to 120 fps. A photo mode offers the choice of 12MP DNG raw or jpeg images.
21 Minute Maximum Flight Time. DJI reports that in lab tests with ideal conditions (Read: not the places you’ll likely be using it) the drone has a 21 minute flight time. A more realistic average is probably around 15 minutes.
Drone Control From 2.5 Miles Line-Of-Sight. The Mavic Air’s twin stick controller works in tandem with the DJI Go app to allow control at distances of around 2.5 miles line-of-sight, and real-time video can be monitored at 720p. DJIreports this distance as ideal line-of-sight conditions. Your literal mileage may vary.
Subject Tracking Modes. The gimbal offers multiple options for locking onto and easily tracking subjects like people, vehicles, and pets. The gesture mode allows for hands free selfie snaps, and multiple QuickShots modes offer one tap video selfies that can be shared straight to social media sites. Landing is simplified to a button press, returning the drone to the location where it took off from, and lowering itself delicately onto the ground.
Mavic Support And Resources. Click HERE to be swept away to DJI’s support site for the Mavic Air drone. We’ve linked important videos and manuals at the bottom of this page, but there is a lot more to learn! Go ahead and familiarize yourself with the videos and resources on the support page so you’ll have more time to actually fly when your rental arrives.
The SSID and password can be found on the side of the drone body and inside the battery compartment.
Smartphones between .25 inches and .33 inches thick and up to 6.2 inches long will fit in the device. Phone cases are not accommodated.
We provide a 32GB MicroSD card to get you started, but additional memory can be found here.
Firmware can be updated through the DJI Go 4 app wirelessly as long as the mobile device is connected to the internet.
We’ll update firmware as the equipment moves through our building. However, as drone firmware is updated on an almost daily basis, the user must ensure the firmware is current before flight. Without up-to-date firmware, drone functionality could be limited. Access to the internet is required to update drone firmware.
