Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS II
This is THE workhorse lens for the portrait and wedding photographer. There's a reason just about every Canon wedding photographer swears by this lens. The focal length is perfect for big reception halls and the fast opening of f/2.8 is great for the photon-challenged dark churches that people love to get married in. Mix in the four (yes, 4!) stops of in-lens image stabilization and you can comfortably hand-hold in less than optimal lighting conditions. Sharp images with shutter speeds of 1/30 second are completely attainable. Portraits look absolutely stunning with this lens due to the long focal length and fast maximum aperture. Set your lens to 200mm and f/2.8 and watch your backgrounds melt away! This lens is built like a tank though, so be sure to pump a little iron before lugging this into a 12-hour wedding.
